  • revealed several key criteria for selecting players to strengthen the national football team

Indonesia’s Head of Talent Scouting Simon Tahamata has revealed several key criteria for selecting players to strengthen the national football team, the Garuda squad. Speaking during a national team training session at Madya Stadium on Monday (6/2), Simon emphasized his preference for local-born players over those of Indonesian descent living abroad.

“One of the main qualities I’m looking for is the ability to use both feet effectively,” Simon stated. “I want players with excellent technique, strong mentality, and the mindset of a winner—everything that defines a true professional.”

He also noted that height is not a determining factor in his selection process. According to Simon, players with average height can still excel on the international stage. Citing his own experience playing for Ajax and the Netherlands national team, he underscored that determination and skill can outweigh physical attributes.
